Our Latest Evaluations!

Empirical Education is pleased to announce that we have successfully completed evaluations for three teams that were part of the 2014 Investing in Innovation (i3) competition. Over the last six years, we’ve partnered with WestEd to evaluate the Making Sense of Science and Literacy program in upper elementary grades, with the Atlanta Neighborhood Charter Schools to evaluate the development of their 3-year residency program for early career teachers, and with CAST and SRI to evaluate Enhanced Units in high school content areas, with a focus on support students with special needs. Each of these dedicated program teams set out to meet ambitious goals to innovate and improve teaching and learning across diverse settings. Our evaluations provided the program developers with rich process and formative feedback as they implemented, and summative research reports on the impact of their programs on teacher and student outcomes.

In 2022, we were part of two winning teams: How Are The Children? and FRACTAL. In 2023, we submitted another winning proposal to evaluate Sankofa.

“The power analysis provided in the evaluation was clear and articulated a high level of sophistication in the analytic and methodological approach used in the evaluation.”
(i3 reviewer comments)
“The application of hierarchical linear modeling as the analytic framework appropriately addresses the inherent nested structures of education outcomes. Further, acknowledging the need for scale transformations indicates experience working with a variety of education data sources and need for transformations.” (i3 reviewer comments)
“The interrupted time series model and difference in differences approach outlined for the quasi-experimental design was very sophisticated and utilizes the most up-to-date methods of experimental design recommended in education research.” (i3 reviewer comments)
“The evaluation team, Empirical Education, has the expertise and experience to complete the project with a high degree of integrity.”
